History and uses: This plant has been used since antiquity for its depurative virtues of blood, kidneys and respiratory tracts. It has been used to cure leprosy, ringworm, scabs, boils, syphilitic affections, kidney stones, rheumatism, and gout. St-Hildegarde used it to treat pulmonary obstructions and tuberculosis. In TCM, the Chinese have been using it for thousands of years against Yang diseases (overflow, accumulation) such as diabetes, hypertension and boils.
The ancestor of velcro, its fruits are equipped with hook which inspired its inventor. This plant with a very deep taproot (up to 1m) is used to decontaminate soils of heavy metals, it is claimed that it could also help the body eliminate accumulated heavy metals.
Indications: It is traditionally used in herbal medicine as a blood purifier (alterative) to treat skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, acne, boils) by helping to eliminate toxins through the kidneys, skin and mucous by stimulating the release of waste produced by the cells. It can be used in any situation where the body needs to increase the disposal of accumulated waste. It helps to stimulate lymphatic circulation, especially in cases of chronic inflammation of the lymph nodes, fibromyalgia, tonsillitis, mastitis and lymphedema. Ingredient: Burdock (Arctium lappa) organic dried root.
Dosage: (Adults) Infuse a tablespoon in a cup of boiling water, cover, infuse 5-10 minutes and filter. Or in decoction; simmer for a few minutes, remove from heat and steep for 5 minutes and filter. Drink 2 to 3 cups a day.
